Cataract surgery is an extremely common and safe procedure that most people need at some point in their life. The procedure itself is quite simple, yet we all meet people that are not fully satisfied with the results that cataract surgery has yielded. A lot of people complain of poor vision even after surgery and many more complain of the heavy glasses they have to wear even after the surgery. There are innovations made every day in the world of cataract. These advancements in medical science are aimed at improving the vision of those that have undergone cataract surgery.

When it comes to innovations in cataract surgery, one stands apart in having improved the vision and lives of several thousand people across the globe. That innovation is the Toric lens. It is a special type of lens that is inserted into your eye during surgery. During surgery, the doctor simply removes the cloudy natural lens of your eye and replaces it with a brand new toric lens. This lens then goes on to ensure that your vision stays as clear and true as possible.

This technology is quite revolutionary, however, not a lot of doctors make it available for their patients here in Delhi. The reason being the level of skill that is required to do the procedure. The level of accuracy needed is quite high.
However, the Toric lens makes it worthwhile with the superior vision it provides and the joy and satisfaction it gives to the patients that use it.

In conclusion, cataract surgery is a common procedure but to get a lasting benefit from this surgery, be sure to adopt the best form of treatment. If you or anyone you know needs cataract surgery, reach out and we'll provide you with the best in class treatment right here in the city of Delhi.

TYPES OF CONTACT LENSES

There are different types of lenses available according to the construction material, wear time, design, and replacement schedule.

1. SOFT CONTACT LENSES

These are the most commonly preferred lenses that are made up of soft, flexible plastic that allows oxygen to pass through the cornea. They are more comfortable than rigid gas permeable lenses and offer greater flexibility and adaptability. The advanced and most popular type of soft contact lenses uses silicone hydro gel material that prevents eye irritation and provides increased oxygen supply to the eyes.

Based on the wear time and replacement schedule soft contact lenses can be further classified as

  • EXTENDED WEAR LENSES – These are the lenses that offer the flexibility of overnight or continuous wear up to 30 days. However, it is vital for the eyes to have a rest period without lenses for at least one night.

  • DISPOSABLE CONTACT LENSES – As the name suggests, these lenses can be disposed of after a particular time frame. These lenses most often are maintenance-friendly and do not require any cleaning. They even reduce the risk of eye infection and irritation.

2. RIGID GAS-PERMEABLE LENSES

Also known as hard lenses, they are rigid lenses that provide clear and crispier vision by maintaining their shape on the eye. These lenses are more durable and easy to handle when compared to soft lenses. The initial eye adaptability of these lenses is slightly longer than soft lenses.

3. ORTHOKERATOLOGY (ORTHO K)

It is a lens fitting procedure that is performed to change the curvature of the cornea. This procedure makes use of specially designed gas permeable lenses to temporarily correct myopia. Ortho-K lenses are mostly prescribed for overnight use for at least eight hours each night.

4. DECORATIVE CONTACT LENSES

These are also known as colored lenses or cosmetic lenses. They are the medical devices that help to change the eye color to enhance your everyday look. These types of lenses are available with or without power correctness.

5. SCLERAL CONTACT LENSES

These are the large-diameter gas permeable contact lenses specially designed to vault over the entire corneal surface. They are more stable on the eye compared to traditional hard lenses. They are the best lens option for treating keratoconus, irregular cornea, and, astigmatism. These lenses offer great initial comfort with more breathing space and better vision for people suffering from dry eyes.

Cataract is clouding of the lens inside the eye which causes vision loss and cannot be corrected by using power glasses. Technology is improving every day. Today every situation crisis situation is overcome by technology. The modern surgical method can restore the vision lost to cataracts as well as reduce the dependency on glasses. Cataracts mostly occur as you grow older. People above the age of 70 are mostly associated with this vision problem.

The advanced Micro-Incision Cataract Surgery is an effective procedure to restore vision in patients who have lost vision due to cataract. Here are a few things you should know about the surgery.

microincision cataract surgery delhi

How is the procedure conducted?

Also known as Phacoemulsification, the surgery aims at restoring the vision that has become cloudy from cataract. As the cataract starts growing, it blocks the lens of the eye and the vision becomes more blur. Through this procedure, ultrasound power is used to break the cataract into small pieces. Next small incisions are made to suck away those residue pieces. After drawing those pieces an artificial lens, also known as Intraocular lens is implanted in the right place. After being implanted, the lens unfolds to its normal size of 6.6mm.

What are the benefits of this microincision cataract surgery?

Being a minimally invasive process, there are no chances of scars or bruises. It is a no bandage surgery, therefore, the recovery period is quite fast. One of the best parts of the surgery is, no injection is used as a local anaesthesia agent. A few drops of anaesthetic solution are used instead. As no stitches or pain is associated with the surgery, the patient gets released on the very day of the surgery. The surgery also allows early visual rehabilitation for the patient.
