Oculoplastic surgery or Ophthalmic plastic surgery is a highly specialized surgical sub-specialty of ophthalmology that involves reconstruction of the eyes orbit, tear ducts, eyelids, eyebrows, and forehead. The reconstructive procedures are performed by oculoplastic surgeons who are ophthalmologists who have completed an additional two years of training apart from their regular ophthalmology program. Oculoplastic surgeons are trained to perform plastic, reconstructive, and even cosmetic procedures for the upper part of the face. Most of the oculoplastic surgeries can be performed as daycare and do not require hospitalization.
