A chemical eye injury or Chemical Eye Burn is caused due to the contact of an acid or an alkali in the eye. They will react with eye causing burns. If the burn caused is a mild one then it can lead to conjunctivitis or in case of more severe burns it might lead to changing the color of cornea to white.

Symptoms of chemical eye burn are swelling of eyes, and the feeling something is in your eye, pain, redness, irritation, swelling of the eyelids, tearing, inability to keep your eyes open, blurred vision etc. in case of any of these symptoms consult an eye specialist immediately.

The best prevention is not letting any chemical reach your eye, so be careful while working with chemicals wear eye protections while handling them, do not avoid any small irritations on your eyes while working pause your work and wash, always wash your eyes regularly.

Washing your eyes with a lot of clean water is the first remedy to the chemical eye burn, you should continue washing eyes with eyelids open for like 10 to 20 minutes or like till you feel okay. If the pain still exists then immediately consult a doctor.
